As I write this, I can't help but feel still a bit giddy.
Kenshin Himura. He was one of the anime I adored when I was bumming after graduation, reviewing for board exams, passing it, and hunting for a job. Kenshin, to say the least, is one of, if not the, the cutest anime there is. *gasps for air* Well, he was rocking a red-do! That should in itself say something, right?
Anyway, over the weekend, Jenny and Artu invited me to watch the live, Japanese adaptation of the anime series. It did not disappoint. It left me awestruck, and totally sold to Japanese movies. After Battle Royale, Rurouni Kenshin is epic in all its gory details. The fast paced action scenes were more than I could handle. I deeply, deeply, loved how the series was economized in a two-hour format. With the essentials still intact.
I mostly forgot all other characters, and even then, I still learned to appreciate the film. I need to watch it again. Only to make a better review. Until then, Kenshin!
P.S. I had a problem with my boyfriend. He was 2D. Now, he's live! I will see you again, Kenshin Himura. :)
UPDATE:
We watched Rurouni Kenshin again last Saturday. And I'm still struggling with words. I and my measly words. They could never define the epicness that is the film. :) Go. Watch it. Now.

Singapore the second time around
Books
I love books! So it was a pretty difficult decision as to what book to recommend. It was a toss-up between a favorite classic and a favorite contemporary book - that being The Hunger Games series. Hehe. Okay, so, the latter is a little bit childish for my liking. But it was the only series I got to read in one week, three times, and in e-copy.
I love The Catcher in the Rye because I read it as a teenager. And I could pretty much relate to the angst of Holden. Albeit, he lives the life of the rich, and at many times while reading, I kept asking, how could he? How could he feel such malcontent? How could he throw it all away? While there I was, painstakingly working for things I wanted. Things I know not handed in silver platter. Haha! Enough.
I still love you, Holden. :)
UPDATE:
Alot and I were talking again. And it was about the recent book she read, The Fault in Our Stars. The title came from Hamlet, I'm not exactly sure who said it, since I find reading Old English terribly difficult. But the novel, the story, as I've read from Wikipedia, is about a girl with cancer. I might pick it up one of these days. But as it is, I got my hands too full.

=)
A common misconception about traveling is that it's expensive. It's not. First off, there's a concept called frugal traveling. Be wise. You can scrimp on the F.U.N.D. without scrimping on the F.U.N. =) Second, the experience... Well. You can't just put a price on it. You can't trade off first-hand culture education to any value of bill. (Some texts I may have lifted out of the blog of Patty Laurel-Filart. Teehee)
This November 2012, I have been to three countries - four, if you count Philippines. (Technically, I'll be on my third country tomorrow, but, well nevermind) And was in one out of town trip.
Little things
I'm keeping little things inside a box:
Sparks
Giggles
And long Daydreams.
I put them away
In a box
In a room
To be forgotten this way.
I put these feelings inside a box.
Laughs
Stares
Learned talks.
I stash them away
Inside a box to be forgotten someday.
I keep my feelings for you inside a box
Looking back
One last
Reminisce
Take them away
Goodbye, I say.

The Cast |
Last November 11, 2012, we celebrated our annual tradition (did that sound redundant?), the delayed Halloween party! This year's theme, as agreed last year, is Harry Potter. Yes, it's long done and over with. But HP reminds every one of us of High School. Wait, maybe that's just me. Haha.
And this year's feast looked like this!

SK Chronicles: Day 3 - Hallasan
Mt. Halla
A few months prior to the trip, we were arguing as to what the name of Korea's highest peak really was. I had a brochure from Rhoda - Mt Halla in Hallasan. Chabs and Yeye told me Mt Halla and Mt Hallasan - it's the same mountain. I don't know what's the confusion with the name, but I was just as adamant on calling it Mt Halla the first few times. And I later found out from a friend (Noel, who will surely comment on this post and) who went to Korea earlier this year that -san is a suffix which means 'mountain' - e.g. Seoraksan, Namsan. Just like -gung for palace, -do for island, -si for city, -dong for district, -gu equivalent to Philippine's barangay, and -ro for neighborhood.
So much for the easy language lesson, let me share our Hallasan adventure.

Definitely Vacay
I've been very excited for weeks! Giddy and giggling almost every single time I remember the impending trip. Ten (10) days. New country. New culture.
We were set to go to South Korea from October 26 until November 5. It was long planned, after the Hong Kong trip and before Boracay, me think. We were lucky to get fare discounts, and got a two-way ticket for around 5,500 PhP.
Normally, Filipinos have direct flights to Incheon, Seoul. But since there were no discounted flights on our preferred dates, we opted to fly in Busan. I've never even heard of the place. Before this trip, I only knew of two places in SK: Seoul and Jeju Island. Haha! Me and my geography. Tch.

Looper: A review
Last week, my roommate Pammy arrived home proclaiming, "Looper was good. Watch it. It has this Inception-like feel to it. You will like it." Which, of course, piqued my interest.
And last night, I finally watched the film with two friends. As is with any time-traveling story, Looper was mind-boggling.
The story was centered around a Looper, Joe, who was an addict. Haha. I'm sorry, that was what first came to mind. Not the fact that he was swift, fast, and downright cute. *forgive the girl gushing* To give you a brief background, I might need to spill some spoilers. So, continue at your own risk.

My List
I don't normally make a list of things to bring. Because friends either message/remind me of what to bring. And more often than not, I pack 2 hours before flight. I procrastinate like that. Hoho!
Anyway, in any case, Chabs asked me what are the list of clothing I'm bringing to Jeju Island. We are to climb up Mt. Hallasan, so it's imperative we bring hiking gears.
As I was emailing her, I came up with this list:
1. Trek pants
2. Trek shoes (Merrell, because it's light)
3. Thermals (Will have to check Debenhams and Columbia selection. As well as the offerings at WinterHaus in Cartimar Shop Center.)
4. Dress or 2 skirts
5. 2 shorts

100 Idea Challenge: 75
As part of the 100 Idea Challenge, today I picked out 75. Create a graph documenting or measuring something in your life.
Since I've been blogging for almost a year now, I gather I can post here the current readership status.
Thank you to my friends who kept clicking my YM status, ergo, adding up to my page views for the day. Haha!
This here is a snapshot of what today looks like. A bit like a demand curve for electricity, if you ask me. There're the peak points, which happens sometime between 0800 - 1700 hours when people are at the offices, and between 1900 - 2200 hours when people are tuning in for their weeknight shows. Hahaha! I'm kidding. :)

Korean Visa for Filipinos
Applications are of course done at the Korean Embassy located at the Upper McKinley road.
What we brought with us, since we were backpacking South Korea for 10 days (and we do not have any stamps from any OECD countries) were the following requirements:
(1) Filled up application form with passport size ID picture
(2) Passport (original and photocopy)
(3) Income Tax Return (photocopy)
(4) Bank Certificate - amounting to 50,000 Php
(5) Certificate of Employment (with annual compensation)
From C5, the Korean embassy is pretty easy to spot. We were queuing at 7:30 AM, and the windows opened at quarter to eight. Before 10AM, we were done! We received our stamped passport after 8 working days. Retrieval happens at 2PM. :)
For those who have traveled to OECD countries within the last five years. [Here's the list of OECD countries.]
Requirements are more lenient.
From the web, I also saw these requirements:

100-Idea Challenge: Yesterday
Yesterday, I got #28. Write a letter to someone you admire.
I haven't gone around to doing it. I started - but ended at - Dear Friend. Trying to carve out Charlie's letters in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Hahaha.
So, I'm thinking maybe I should write to someone else, y'know. And I kept rummaging through my thoughts - who do I admire. So, I will write to a favorite musician. I have a lot of 'em. On top of my list would be Brandon Flowers. He's the lead vocals of the band The Killers. I've known them after I asked to borrow from Francis their CD, Hot Fuss. Then there's Admiral Fallow. But I don't know the names of the members. And there was a time I got addicted to Arcade Fire. And The Stokes. So, I will just start with a letter to Brandon.

100-Idea Challenge: Today
"42. Create a character based on someone you know. Write a list of personality traits."
THIS ONE IS A BOY. I will name him EE. The traits I find adorable in him:
1. He is smart, witty. Learned. He reads.
2. He is well put and well versed. (Conversant?)
3. He is lanky and tall. Walks with grace. Exudes confidence. Albeit with a little bit of awkwardness. (There goes my penchant for paradox.)
4. He is passionate and kind.
5. He appreciates little things. Observes them. Remembers them well.
6. He is gentle with women. The type that makes you want to thank someone for Chivalry.

Hiatus
I will be on social networking hiatus for an indefinite period of time. I will try to remember how it was way back in elementary. When cellular phones were not rampant, pictures were in physical photo albums, and people exchange messages and letters on paper.
I will keep posting in my blog though. Because I am a writer. Haha!

Phantom of the Opera
Fantastic would be an understatement.
I did not know such theatrical magnificence was probable. Jaw-dropping and worthy of a standing ovation.
The Phantom of the Opera in Manila was astounding as compared to anything and nothing. Sorry if I may sound too precocious for words. The play left me awestruck. Plain and simple.
Prior to this one, I've already watched several productions at CCP.

To a Senator
There's been a lot of brickbats going around this comedian-turned-senator from the Philippines plagiarizing ideas from bloggers and recently from Robert Kennedy.

Let's cut him some slack. And hopefully he cuts off some of his staff. :P
And the attitude.
Besides, copying from one source IS plagiarism. Copying from multiple sources, that's RESEARCH. Haha. Not my idea. But I still find it funny!

100-Idea Challenge: DAY 1
I instantly loved Keri Smith. Author of several cute books and a blog writer to boot.
In 2010, she has this list of 100 Ideas that you can cut out, and you can pick out of a jar. I did this, and for a while, picked out one "to-do" once a day and I try to do it.
TODAY, I picked out 58. List your ten most important things, (not including animals or people.)

Here's my list:
1. iPod - only because I connect to internet through it. Albeit I am too much of a music lover, I have not updated the contents of my playlist.
2. Phone - I need to be in contact with people.
3. Laptop - I need to download and watch and read and listen to TV series and movies, ebooks, and music.
4. Bed + Pillows - 'nuff said.
5. Internet (I'm highly doubtful if this counts. But I will count it in.)
6. Books
7. Camera - wait! I can live without this! Passport
8. Chocolates - this is not in the league of Food, my #9. This is a special number. Chocolates. <3
9. Food
10. Eye Cream - I have this perennial puffs under my most important sensory.
What's your list?

History
I was reading Orwell's 1984. It was published in 1949 and was set 36 years into the future. I was reading the ebook version of it. But up til now, I have not gone past a quarter into the book.

Book Cover |
It was about his futuristic take on the world. A dystopian novel set in Oceania. A Big Brother was supposed to be omniscient then. Every thought provokes a certain eye twitch, or measly movement, that can easily be identified by the Thought Police. And even children frightened their parents because they could turn against them.

Boondocks - Bulusan
We waited for our van in McDonald's for over 2 hours. Some were cranky already. Is it here yet? Is it here yet? Is it here yet? Haha. Anyway, we packed our belongings in one van, where the A/C was not working, and saved ourselves seats on the other van. Then we trudged on.
En route to SLEX via C5, Tish mandated Kuya Driver make a U-turn along Shaw since the traffic was quite heavy. Kuya, without having any second thoughts, obliged. Traffic was pretty bad from Makati to Nichols, thus we opted to take the skyway. We finally arrived in SLEX after two grueling hours.

Nowhere but Up!
I was invited to climb indoors by Comodo at Tandang Sora. I came from a meeting with my business partners in Malate the night before, so it was not in my plans to pack along sports wear. The Famy climb was postponed due to the incessant downpour and the severe weather conditions within Metro Manila for three weeks now.
Three LPAs were expected to come by PAR. Thus, for the safety of every one, the gang opted to climb indoors. I tagged along. Even without climbing clothes on.

Kuya Kelly taught us the basics. Literally the basics. There is now new belaying tricks/steps because gri-gri (semi-automatic lock by Petzl) was replaced with Black Diamond ATC (tubular device evolved from Sticht plate). There is now five steps to belay someone. Pretty tiring, I guess. I did it only once. Haha!

What will you do?
Whilst waiting for Breaking Bad to buffer, am watching One Week again. And it prods several questions on my mind.
1. What is death? Have you ever thought about it?
2. If you have one week left to live, what will you be doing instead?
3. How do you become a nihilist?
4. Have you defined your purpose?
5. Josh is cute, no? ;)
"Es ist alles lächerlich, wenn man an den Tod denkt."
I actually am excited for it. I cannot wait to see my Mama again.
I will stop there, else, might you think me fatalist. Hoho.
1. What is death? Have you ever thought about it?
2. If you have one week left to live, what will you be doing instead?
3. How do you become a nihilist?
4. Have you defined your purpose?
5. Josh is cute, no? ;)

Quiz Night
Tuesdays are best because it's Quiz Night for
The Pamela Montero Society.
I played, not religiously though, since last year. But I was playing with Gab, a high school classmate, and his med-classmates for Doogie Howser.
This year, I'm playing with my Pisay classmates! Artu dubbed the team, PMS. As Sheldon Cooper (of Big Bang Theory) would put it, Perpetual Motion Squad! PMS! :)
No limit to number of members, so we encourage everyone to join our fun! Hehe.
Mechanics:
8 rounds
10 questions @
Powers: Doubler, Steal, and Riddler
Doubler - can be used once every four rounds. Encircle your answer to get two points.
Steal - Sure the other team got it correct? Steal! Write the other team's name inside a quadrilateral. Can be used once every four rounds.
Riddler - can be used once on the first six rounds. No fun. Can't play during the round, but you get five points for that round.
We play at 121 Grille and Restaurant. Located at 2nd floor Allegro Center, 2284 Pasong Tamo Ext., Makati City, Philippines. Tuesdays, 2200. Come play with us! Call them to make reservations. (+63 2) 856 0529 or 6212677. See you there!

RIP
A couple of days ago, I was talking to a friend regarding PURPOSE. What is it that we are to do here?
There were two notable stories in Fringe which talks about purpose. For the benefit of the few who does not know the television series, Fringe is a science-fiction story about an FBI agent, Olivia Dunham, whose partner needed the expertise of Dr. Walter Bishop, 17 years in St. Claire's facility for the mentally unstable. She needed the help of the son, Peter Bishop, to get the scientist father out of the facility's care. Later in the story, we gather that the son died in his timeline. Thus, the scientist tried to rescue the boy from another universe. And unworldly activities and parallel universes were incorporated into the story line.

Scrambling
In the matter of being too involved with Fringe.
She is consumed with the parallel world.
And she consoles herself.
If they were not meant to be together here, now...
Somewhere, somehow...
In a parallel universe,
Where different decisions were made
And different emotions were felt
He held her hand, and never did let go.
That is her world of might-have-been.
But she will be happy right here.
As she relished the thought of this new relatedness.
They will be friends.
In this lifetime. in this universe.
She and him.
Friends.

Blast from the past
An online application/ website, FutureMe.org, allows people to send messages to their future selves. I got mine a few days back. And it was from a year ago.
The past, I guess, should be left alone as it is. Never open Pandora's box. It leads to a plethora of emotions that was burried, and should have been left six feet under. Considered dead. Forgotten, albeit barely forgiven.
I will share with you a conversation that is in the email:
Person 1: punta kami nbi ngayon, magpapakulong.
Person 2: sa main? dika nila pwede ikulong kasi nakakulong ka na sa isip ko.. you cant be in 2 places at once! hahahaha
I'd like to think that based from above conversation, Person 2 is witty and cute. However, this might not be the case for Person 1. Perception is reality. So what Person 1 perceives to be true, that is his/her reality. What Person 2 thinks funny and cute might come off as aggressive and needy to Person 1. [No credits to my name as this is not an original thought.]
So, basically, what I'm saying is that, what we see as true is our reality. What we think other people think is true, that is our imagination.

Dope!
Dopamine - it's the neuro-transmitter in the human brain responsible for euphoria. :)
"Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain's reward and pleasure centers. Dopamine also helps regulate movement and emotional responses, and it enables us not only to see rewards, but to take action to move toward them. Dopamine deficiency results in Parkinson's Disease, and people with low dopamine activity may be more prone to addiction. The presence of a certain kind of dopamine receptor is also associated with sensation-seeking."

Cherry Blossom. An enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. An omen of good fortune and is also an emblem of love, affection and represents spring. =)
I love the paradoxical take of this. Temporary yet permanent. Just like me. Oxymoron.

waiting
I love the song too much. Its poignant melody reminds me that, patience, will pay off. I will wait.
And while waiting, I'm thinking of getting a new tattoo. :)
Face shop
I have been using The Face Shop's BB Cream Power Perfection SPF 37 for a few weeks now. Suffice to say I loved using it. It gives off a matte finish after a rush to the office. More than that, it leaves my face supple and free of breakouts. I notice the improvement in my skin days after first using it. I highly recommend the product for people who are prone to acne breakout.

CSR Scholars
CSR - that's Community Social Responsibility.
We just awarded scholarships to two (2) BS Mechanical Engineers from PUP - Taguig.
Education - I think, is one of the best thing my Mama gave to me. I miss her so.
So, to give back,we the volunteers from First Gen, gave a chance to worthy students who are keen on finishing tertiary school, but are a little bit on the tight side - financially.
So Congratulations to CSR's scholars! We hope you do great!
P.S.
And happy nameday to you! :)

Saturday Hike
June 23, 2012
Pico de Loro
Ternate, Cavite
Things to bring on your day hike to Cavite's highest peak:
Packed lunch
Rain Coat
Extra Shirt
Trail Food
Swim Clothes
Camera
Insect repellent/ Sunblock/ BB Cream
Fun (I have a mind-full of this! :D)
and Four (4) Liters of water.
Yes, you read that right. You need four liters of water to sustain you for this 3-hour hike up Mt. Pico de Loro. We underestimated the trek since as per other blogs, there were lots of trees which serve as canopies during most of the trail. However, they failed to mention that the trek is almost always ascending, and it was actually very steep. So we were panting like maniacs, looking for staple water, and found there are no sari sari store up the mountainside. And no four-walled comfort room either. But that's the least of our worries. ;)

Snow
Canon S100 |
I will capture vivid memories for you.
My specifications are here.
You shall know more of me in the next few blogs.
I hope I will last more than a year. :)
NB: Tyrion Lannister is a character from George R.R Martin's Game of Thrones. He is one of the wittiest characters I know and I love his cunning mind, indecent humor, and love for Shae.
Jon Snow is another character in the novel/TV series. He is the bastard son of Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell. And he has a direwolf named Ghost.
I think I'm changing the name to Snow because I love Jon. Or mayhap, I like Snow better than Tyrion. It's paradox of Canon's S100 matte black finish.

"The power of Now"
I think of two weeks from now.
But I stop myself.
I will live in the Now.
And be at peace with everything else.

Nagsasa, Zambales
As promised from the previous post...
Here's the view during our trek to Nagsasa Cove. It was a 5.5 hour hike. Heavy packs on our backs. Grueling trail. Misty rain.
