ReplyDeleteI don't think she is a middle-aged man or person. But I have often found many of her poems being slightly similar to other poets' work. I think she reads a lot of poetry and borrows things from here and there. Like its been said, nothing is original- I don't find her work very original just very eager to be a copy of poets she reads.
But that's just me. Other people who don't read too much poetry probably don't feel the same.

ReplyDeleteI agree that what she writes appears to be a copy of other things. I myself frequent Tumblr, and I am constantly reading poetry. In fact, everything everyone writes on Tumblr feels like a fierce battle of who can claim what words first, and who can string them in a sentence better. I know, I get it, not everything we create is original anymore, but honestly I've never liked her. She constantly ignores me when I try to ask her things about writing, or anything at all. I'm a writer who lives in NYC and it's nice to find common ground with people, but so far all I've found is someone who is self-righteous and privileged and constantly uses her smallness and "uniqueness" to an irritating advantage. I don't care that she's been all over the world, and I don't care about her writing. I don't care that this is mean, because I'll just forget about this post and besides, everyone loves her, so I'm just another brick in the wall.

DeleteI'm an engineering major, so my literary world is not wide enough. I did publish in one blog post, though, that one of her works was reminiscent of Iain Thomas'. And well, "All ideas are second-hand," said Mark Twain. Keri Smith, in a book, also said, all ideas there was lifted, pilfered, borrowed, etc from great artists. =)
I "stumbled" upon some of shinji's quotes and when I went to Google her....found nothing and was very taken aback at her age. It just doesn't mesh with her writing. When I Google pieces of her quotes, I come up with a LOT of similar writings from older poets. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteyes, I am also dlightly dissapointed..there are far deeperand meaningful words from Syria, Lebanon, Russia and India. Your words are already depicted and no news at all...sorry!
