My May weekends were full. The last hirit would be the trek to Nagsasa Cove in Zambales. Advesturista Camping Trip, c/o Maximus Jovi, invited me to attend their organized event at the end of Summer 2012. I met Sir Jovi back in January 2009, when both of us attended Sierra Mountaineer's Lakad Coto in Coto, Zambales. By chance, we also met going up Mt. Pulag in October of last year.
May 26, 0100, from EDSA Central we started off to Zambales. Aboard a bus, we tried to doze off. I was successful in finding my fitful sleep but Yeye was not as lucky. He told me there was a lot of tossing that happened at the backseat. Haha!
We started off at 0520. Halfway through the trek, we saw this.

We arrived at 1100. (Pictures here)
Anyway, there were three of us, Chichi, Yeye and I, who gleefully joined 60+ participants to the said event.
Several achievements were noteworthy:
(1) 5.5 hours of trek - longest one yet
I am not counting the 6 hours to Pulag since it was only 4 hours to camping grounds
(2) 5.5 hours of trek WITH packs on MY back!
I may have no need for a porter after all. ;)
Included in my pack are the following: cookset, 2 butane, 1.5 kilo of rice, coffee and other paraphernalia, clothes, toiletries and other personal effects, aqua shoes, slippers, raincoat, flashlight, sleeping bag.
(3) Too inebriated to sleep inside the tent.
I was adamant on getting to see my shooting star. Alas, at 2300, since I cannot find any, I went to the beach side to start my sightseeing. Perhaps I saw one.
The folks went with me. Too groggy and too stubborn to get inside their respective tents. We slept on the sand until the wee hours of the morning.
Also, I was told, I named one star after me. Hahaha. (Ako na ang may star!)
(4) Pinoy Henyo
I know most have played the game. Perhaps I played it too, once, but I forgot. Anyway, I was the one who tried to guess the word. BUTIKI. After they dragged me off to the hotseat. The first series of questions was to know which category.
Tao? Hindi!
Hayop? Oo!
Sa tubig? Hindi!
Sa lupa? Hindi!
Sa langit? Hindi!
Eh san nakatira yon?!
Hohoho.
I asked several more questions.
Sa puno? Pwede!
Rico J Puno? Hayop ba yun?
Pwede! (laughs at own comment)
Koala? Hindi!
Tarsier? Hindi!
Lizard? Oo! Oo! Oo! (Yeye thinking I can get it by then)
Komodo Dragon??? ALL: HINDI!!
And that ended my chance to win 500 Php.
And earned me a few following. Haha.
We also played card games, betting-slavery tactics. In one game, Dino lost so he had to walk 2 kilometers to where sodas are sold, under the unforgiving and scorching heat of summer sun. And carry 10 bottles back, to boot! Ha! It was a close call. I almost lost to that game. :D
We were supposed to be packed up and ready for the boat ride back to Pundaquit at 1400. However, the bankas were late by more than an hour. What we did with the extra time was play more card games. And after our grueling wait (I have no patience for waiting), we rode a 22-seater banka and we were positioned at the back, just above the motor. It was hot, with the exhaust pointing right at us. And noisy too. I think it exceeded the Time Weighted Average (TWA) noise standard from DOLE. I was more worried about the boat men.. How their livelihood included noise hazard which is inherently bad for the ear drums, and it does not sit well with me. Haha. Okay, I should stop being a worrywart. But ear plugs would not hurt. Any sponsors? ;)
Thank you folks for the awesome weekend thrill! Imma wait for Yeye's pictures and post 'em soonest.
